1. Opening — A Dream That Began in a Parking Lot

Baseball first set foot in Laos in 2012, when a Korean missionary gathered a dozen or so teenagers who had never seen a baseball game before and began teaching them to play catch in a Vientiane parking lot.

Fourteen years later, that small parking lot became a national team. It became Saphanthong Stadium, built brick by brick by the players themselves. It became a come-from-behind win over Singapore, overturning a seven-run deficit at the Asian Games.

Laos baseball started with nothing. Today, it is something.

 

2. The Setback — A Halted Asian Games Bid

This year, however, unforeseen circumstances forced the cancellation of the national team's plan to compete at the Asian Games.

Their first-ever Asian Games win came against Singapore in 2023. In 2025, the youngest team in the tournament — average age 22 — defeated Vietnam 16–0 at the Southeast Asian Games. That momentum now faces a stage that has suddenly disappeared.

For these athletes, the international stage is never just a game. In an environment short on coaches, facilities, and funding, it is one of the few chances they have to prove themselves. With that door closed for now, we decided to open another one.

 

3. The Pivot — A Stage We Build Ourselves: The Dream Cup

If we can't go to the Asian Games, we'll bring the stage to Laos.

The Dream Cup is an international invitational baseball tournament hosted by Team Laos on home soil. By inviting neighboring national teams to Saphanthong Stadium, we aim to keep our players' international match experience alive and build a self-sustaining structure for Laos baseball to keep growing on its own.

• Preserve international match sharpness without a gap in competitive experience
• Expand Laos's role in growing baseball across Cambodia, Myanmar, and the rest of Southeast Asia
• Host the country's first self-organized international tournament — with the potential to become a recurring event

 

4. The Road So Far — Laos Baseball, by the Numbers

• 2018 Jakarta Asian Games debut: lost 0–15 to Thailand — but showed grit by closing a 4–11 deficit to 8–11 against Sri Lanka
• 2019: Saphanthong Stadium built with sponsorship from DGB Financial Group and others, with players themselves taking part in construction
• 2023 East Asia Baseball Cup: first-ever international wins, defeating Cambodia 9–0 and Malaysia 13–1; pitcher Hounchaleun Soulaphixay named Best Starting Pitcher
• 2023 Asian Games: first tournament win in history, a comeback victory over Singapore from a seven-run deficit
• 2025 Southeast Asian Games: finished 5th, with a 16–0 rout of Vietnam, reaching an all-time-high WBSC world ranking of 47th

Laos baseball has lost, again and again — and won a little more, every single time.

 

5. Why We Need Your Support

Hosting the Dream Cup requires funding across several areas:

• Flights, accommodation, and local support for invited teams
• Tournament operations — umpires, interpreters, and broadcast staff
• Stadium maintenance and equipment upgrades
• Training and nutritional support for the team

Our $200,000 goal is the minimum needed to run the tournament reliably and give Laos baseball a solid foundation to step onto its next international stage.

A single ball thrown in a parking lot in 2012 has become a national uniform today.

Our Asian Games run may be on pause, but the growth of Laos baseball cannot be.
